Do we trust the laws?

Law – it always sounds so enticing.  “We are a country of laws” – words that are often brandished by the authorities.  It is though interesting to me to ask the question of those same authorities – do they believe in their own words?!  I ask this as it often seems to be the case that the people that make the laws in this country are the first ones to break them.  Yes, there is a parliament in the country and it busies itself with producing laws.  Although to be more precise, it is preoccupied with copying and plagiarizing the laws of other countries.  And they do that with absolutely no shame.  Even before starting to prepare the proposed law to become legislation, it is actually being derived from another’s work.

The question is then, can a law that is prepared like this actually be considered supreme?  Can it gain genuine respect?  Would a person writing (copying) it have genuine respect for both its content and spirit?  I think not.  Ask the further question – who are the people sitting in parliament now?!  Ministers, high ranking officials, those who are part of the close circle around the president, his relatives and sycophant “art workers.”  These are the same people who readily violate laws – again, minsters, MPs, bureaucrats and the President’s close circle.

There is a famous line from a film: “I prepared the sword, it won’t cut me.”  And those violators of the law live in accordance with the very same principles.  That is, since I have copied the law, it won’t affect me.  And really, the sad reality is that it does not.

Our MPs only ever discharge their duties effectively in just one instance, which is when they discuss legislation about their own pensions.  The rest of the time they really don’t know themselves as to what they are up to.

Ordinary citizens don’t dare to break the law (a citizen might break at rule as the most) as they are afraid of the law.  That’s because the laws are in effect tested on the very same citizens that they are meant to protect.  These people are being used like unwitting rabbits in a laboratory test.  Matters are compounded in that the court system does not have the trust of the people.  There is a system, of sorts, but it is possible to manipulate that into any direction you wish, if you are rich and powerful, because there are so many voids and grey areas in the Law.

I cannot say for sure that these voids and grey areas are in place through accident or design and that’s because it may be a result of plagiarizing the laws of other countries and things being lost in translation.  However, one thing I am certain of is that no-one tries to fill those voids.  And that’s because the authorities benefit from the gaps and grey areas.  By using those voids, they become empowered to do things like conceal illegal actions undertaken by their businesses.  They also carry out various legalistic experiments on their citizens by using those gaps.  The harsh reality is, they can arrest whoever they want just as much as they can release whoever they want.
